Dr. Akira Nakagawara, MD, PhD, is President Emeritus of the Saga HIMAT Foundation in Japan. Chairman of the Japan Management Council of Carbon Ion Beam Radiation Cancer Therapy Facilities and Director of The Quantum Medicine Foundation.

A globally recognized leader in pediatric oncology and neuroblastoma research, he has received multiple prestigious awards, including the Prince Hitachi Prize for Comparative Oncology (2018), the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Advances in Neuroblastoma Research Association (2018), and the Austria Alberto Schweitzer Award (2023). He was also the President of the 50th Congress of the International Society of Paediatric Oncology (SIOP 2018, Kyoto).
