Director of the Children's Cancer Center at the National Center for Child Health and Development, Japan. He specializes in pediatric cancer care delivery systems, pediatric hematopoietic cell transplantation, and neuroblastoma. After graduating from Nagoya University in 1987, he trained at Japanese Red Cross Nagoya First Hospital, later studying transplantation immunology at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, USA. He has held key roles in pediatric oncology and hematopoietic cell transplantation throughout his career.
